You have demystified it, but retained the mystery too.michelle lovrichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01026972300195225090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-1004220655371703942017-05-17T11:10:35.492+01:002017-05-17T11:10:35.492+01:00The conveyor belts for books were there, Anabel, b...The conveyor belts for books were there, Anabel, but we saw no crates books moving within the mailing floors. We saw plenty of empty desks and idle scanning equipment as well.

I would have liked to ask whether books are still being shipped out or if all the most needed information moves about online now - but it seemed rude to ask the people taking us round for their first tour-leaders role about it.

The empty feeling could well be a mix of funding cuts within academic libraries, or the result of having no librarians to guide or extend students studies, or modular study systems with a limited information "reach". Or all and more.

Penny Dolanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16386668303428008498noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-88977065647951188082017-05-17T08:41:39.457+01:002017-05-17T08:41:39.457+01:00I visited in 1979/80 when I was at library school ...I visited in 1979/80 when I was at library school in Sheffield. The technology has obviously changed but not the warehouse setup. I remember being impressed by the mechanisation of supply which then (I think) included overhead conveyor belts for books.Anabel Marshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15643196773717977697noreply@blogger.com
