The quilt was made by women prisoners being shipped to Australia, and has connections with Elizabeth Fry. May be worth a look?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-24152105252673146472012-04-14T21:06:06.739+01:002012-04-14T21:06:06.739+01:00Sorry - it was 1665, not 1666. The plague was raging in London and I found it amazing that the authorities were still finding time to persecute Quakers!Ann Turnbullhttp://www.annturnbull.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-36081657634979523812012-04-14T20:59:02.807+01:002012-04-14T20:59:02.807+01:00This sounds a great idea and I look forward to rea...This sounds a great idea and I look forward to reading it! It's shocking though to hear that people were STILL being imprisoned in these hulks in the 1800s. In my novel Forged in the Fire, set in 1666, a large group of Quakers are imprisoned in this way, prior to being transported. This was a true story, which I incorporated into my novel. The prisoners were held on the Thames for months, and when they eventually set sail they were captured by the Dutch and taken to Holland - from where they were eventually sent home. By this time more than half of them had died.Ann Turnbullhttp://www.annturnbull.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-15551700921773932362012-04-14T10:05:35.929+01:002012-04-14T10:05:35.929+01:00Thank you for your comments. Book Maven: yes, that's what I was going to do at first (hulk and then transportation) but it would have meant three different imprisonments (she was first taken to Newgate Gaol)and I thought this might be a bit too much for the poor girl.Mary Hooperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08202547873959487754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-21535321783106523812012-04-13T19:53:24.269+01:002012-04-13T19:53:24.269+01:00Can't she be in the hulk first and THEN transp...Can't she be in the hulk first and THEN transported?
