I loved wandering the village 'finding' the old coaching inns, you could tell by the layout and age of the buildings! I always dreamed of working in the stables of the inn when it was running, but doubt it was anything like I dreamed :-D Thank you for putting it in context, I always thought it was older than 18th century!Ruan Peathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17999492027801288004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-56887024760255911472014-08-15T18:27:01.789+01:002014-08-15T18:27:01.789+01:00I'm not quite sure, Caroline! Private hire posting horses would cover as many stages as the driver felt was approriate as far as I know. But it's quite likely that they mainly covered the same area. I love the idea that the horses in the Wild West knew the roads in the dark!Marie-Louise Jensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18006940874591015786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-12449151801749688182014-08-15T14:50:45.244+01:002014-08-15T14:50:45.244+01:00Fascinating! They got to know their roads so well they could run without lights on a moonless night! Was it the same in the 18th?
