Would love to have worn hand beaded garments.Loved watching 'The House of Elliot' for the fashions.Sunnyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03883872967866412467noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-12119136910637437192012-05-03T13:57:45.644+01:002012-05-03T13:57:45.644+01:00uh, 'revolution' obviously.uh, 'revolution' obviously.Marie-Louise Jensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18006940874591015786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-9919581072712835702012-05-03T13:57:08.283+01:002012-05-03T13:57:08.283+01:00I disliked Downton too - for exactly the same reas...I disliked Downton too - for exactly the same reasons. You are not alone.
I am currently very absorbed by early Georgian fashions. The pre-French revoltion costumes for the wealthy were so extravagant and splendid. But I'm not sure I'd actually want to wear them.Marie-Louise Jensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18006940874591015786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-59417561148218621752012-05-03T09:41:50.608+01:002012-05-03T09:41:50.608+01:00What a lovely post! But I also quite fancy myself in Paris in 1910 or so...loved the Downton Abbey clothes of the fist series, so pre-1914. Second series was good too, clothes wise.adelehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15826710558292792068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5502671101756463249.post-7368661222757213692012-05-03T08:55:41.652+01:002012-05-03T08:55:41.652+01:00Fascinating - your grandmother sounds a marvellous...Fascinating - your grandmother sounds a marvellous character! My grandma had furs too: she was very much working class, but she always had an elegance about her that was in the style of the period between the wars, with little close fitting hats, long coats, and neat, shiny laced up shoes with a heel. Is the fashion source book you mention an old treasure, or something that's still available?

As for favourite period - I've always thought the dresses of the mediaeval period look lovely, comfortable and VERY flattering - but I haven't looked into what they were made of. Probably scratchy wool or something.Sue Purkisshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09084528571944803477noreply@blogger.com
