  1. Pied Piper by Nevil Shute was a village book group pick a few months ago - what a stunning novel, wow! Written simply, but powerfully, with a beautiful cast of unforgettable characters, it was an unexpected favourite!

  2. Don't be afraid.... open up your horizons to include other countries! *wink*

P.S. The "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon.

  3. Oh dear! So many come to mind. First thoughts include The Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Blue Flower, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Tulip Fever, A Place of Greater Safety. AndVictoria Hislop's The Island if dual time frames are allowed. I think I'll opt for a book written for children though - The Crown of Violet by Geoffrey Trease set in Ancient Greece
