Noor Inayat Khan, Nancy Wake, and Christine Granville. I am so in awe of all the women who did us proud in WWII that to choose favourites is almost impossible. The stories of these three, however, have particularly affected me.
Virginia Hall, who defied the Nazis while only having one leg, keeping her self moving to hide and surviving to the end of the war! I can't even imagine what it would be like able-bodied but to do this with a prosthetic leg! amazing lady!
Just before I looked at this I was reading about "Carve Her Name With Pride" by R J Minney so I have to go with Violette Szabo. However, all those who served in the forces, all the nurses and the ATA ferry pilots were heroines as were the land and timber girls. I also admire women like my mother who, as young wife, had to leave her home when my father joined up. She returned to her family farm where she helped with all jobs, looked after evacuees, kept cheerful and probably knitted for victory.
