I loved the Victorian idea of treating others as you would be treated, so I would like the first of a new magana carta to be to treat others well at least as well as you want to be treated, and if you do someone down, that is your punishment, ie if you force someone into bankruptcy you should face the same.

To treat people fairly and with compassion

I think my first clause would have to be "to no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay right or justice", because, sadly, I don't think that that is as safe, and deeply ingrained, in our culture as we would like to think.

'That in all our laws and customs we promote respect for every person who lives in this land. It is both a duty and a privilege, and is the keystone for peace, prosperity and happiness.'

I'd choose something similar for those abroad, especially those in need, as a following clause.

I think I would have to agree with Marjorie. How about

“that every person deserves the same access to justice, the same fair treatment and the same upholding of their human rights and dignity”

My answer would be no war over religion.
